
At least two members of the Border Guard Bangladesh were injured in an attack allegedly by suspected drug dealers at the Nazir Gomani border under Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat early Sunday.
The injured are Anuj Kumar and Moniruzzaman.
They are currently undergoing treatment at Patgram Upazila Health Complex.
According to BGB members, the attack took place at around 2:30am in the Nazir Gomani border area of ​​Jagatber union of the upazila.
The two injured members were working in the Nazir Gomani camp under the 61st BGB Battalion.
The incident happened when a regular patrol team of the BGB tried to arrest some drug peddlers in the border area. Sensing the presence of the BGB members, the drug dealers managed to flee, abandoning their motorcycles.
The BGB members seized the motorcycles and took position in front of the accused’s house with the seized motorcycle.
The members of the drug gang then regrouped themselves and tried to snatch the motorcycles.
At one stage when the BGB members intercepted them, they attacked. BGB members, leaving Anuj Kumar and Moniruzzaman seriously injured.
Confirming the incident, Nazir Gomani Camp commander Subedar Hasibur Rahman said that a written complaint was filed with the Patgram police station on Sunday afternoon in this regard.
Patgram police officer-in-charge Swapan Kumar Sarkar said that a case was filed accusing five named people and seven to eight unidentified others in the case for obstructing government work and attacking the BGB members.
