
At least eight individuals were subjected to extrajudicial killings by law enforcement agencies from January 1 to March 31, according to a quarterly report by human rights organisation Odhikar published on Wednesday.
‘Of these eight people, one was killed by the police, two by detective branch Police, one by the Bangladesh Air Force and four were killed by the Joint Force,’ said Odhikar in its first quarterly report on the human rights situation from January to March in 2025.
Of them, two were tortured to death, three were shot to death and three were beaten to death, the Odhikar report said.
With this, total 20 people became victims of extrajudicial killings between August and March after the Professor Muhammad Yunus led interim government took over on August 8 following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina amid a student-led mass uprising.
The report said that 19 people died in jail custody between January and March this year.
The report also mentioned the incidents of human rights violation by the Indian Border Security Force revealing that six Bangladeshis were killed by the Indian Border Security Force.
At least 64 incidents of harassment on journalists were reported between January and March this year.
The report said that 67 individuals were killed and 1999 were injured in political violence across the country, said the report.
At least 257 girls and women were raped while 33 people were beaten to death between January and March this year, according to the Odhikar’s quarterly report.
