At least four people, including a garment worker, were killed and three others injured in road accidents in Gazipur, Rangpur, Jhenaidah and Madaripur on Wednesday.聽

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a female garment worker was killed after being hit by a speeding bus in the Konabari area in Gazipur.


The deceased is Ruby Akhter, 24, wife of Ziarul, hailing from Sonakhali area under Trishal upazila in Mymensingh.

Konabari police station sub-inspector Kamrul Hasan said that the victim died on the spot after being hit by the bus while she was standing beside the road in the Baimail area on the eastern side of the Konabari flyover on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

The BSS reported that a motorcyclist was killed and two of his companions were injured when a fish-laden pickup van collided with a motorcycle at the Shothibari Filling Station point on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway under Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur.

The deceased is Redwan Mia Sihab, 16, son of Majnu Mia of Jaladipur village in Chengmari union of Mithapukur upazila in the district.

Meanwhile, two injured people have been rescued in critical condition and sent to the hospital. The injured are electricians.

Barodorga highway police officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman said that a case was filed in this regard with the Mithapukur police station.

In another incident, the BSS reported that a motorcyclist was killed and another injured as a pickup van hit their bike on the Ulya-Kola road in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah.

The deceased is Fazlu Khan, 60, of Natopara village of the upazila, said Kaliganj police OC Shahidul Islam.聽聽

The BSS reported that a Saudi expatriate was killed when a truck hit a bus near Mollar Bazar along the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway at Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.

The deceased is Bablur Rahman, 50, a resident of Mukundapur area under Jhikargachha upazila in Jashore district.

Shibchar highway police SI Tamal said that a bus of Saint Martin Paribahan, travelling from Jashore to Dhaka, was parked on the roadside at around 4:00am due to an air-conditioning malfunction when a Dhaka-bound speeding truck rammed into the parked bus from behind.

SI Tamal added that the deceased was on his way to Dhaka to catch a flight to Saudi Arabia and the police seized both vehicles.
