National identity card services, which remained suspended in the country for most of Tuesday due to a technical glitch, were restored in the evening.

The Election Commission said that the services would operate normally from today morning, allowing people to access them without any further disruption.

The outage occurred when the one-time password system — required for logging into the NID server — failed to deliver OTPs, effectively halting services nationwide.

Both service users and EC officials were unable to log into the NID web site, causing significant inconvenience.

After nearly eight and a half hours of disruption, the issue was resolved.

National Identity Registration Division director general ASM Humayun Kabir told reporters in the evening that the external service provider responsible for generating OTPs had fixed the problem in their system.

‘The organisation that supplies the OTPs has resolved the system issue. The OTPs that had remained queued since morning are now being cleared. Once that process is completed, new OTPs will begin to be generated, and from tomorrow morning, people will receive uninterrupted NID services,’ he said.
