The International Crimes Tribunal on Monday ordered former state minister for home Shamsul Haque Tuku, former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Haque, retired major general Ziaul Ahsan, and former deputy inspector general of police Mollah Nazrul Islam to be shown arrested in the case over the killing of Hefazat-e-Islam activists during the Shapla Chattar crackdown in May 5–6, 2013.

The two-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, also directed chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam to complete the investigation into the Shapla Chattar case by August 12.

The order came after jail authorities produced the four accused before the tribunal in response to production warrants issued alongside arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina and four other fugitive accused on March 12.

The four other accused facing warrants are Ganajagaran Mancha spokesman Imran H Sarker, former home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir and former inspectors general of police Hasan Mahmud Khandaker and Benazir Ahmed.

The chief prosecutor sought additional time to complete the probe, which the tribunal granted.

In a separate case, the tribunal extended the deadline until July 20 for submission of the investigation report in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of at least 92 protesters at Dhaka’s Uttara during the July 2024 mass uprising.

Prosecutor Md Saimum Reza Talukder informed the court that the case involved 10 accused, including former Dhaka North City mayor Atiqul Islam. Of them, three are in custody, six have been shown arrested, and one remains at large. He sought a two-month extension to conclude the probe.

Meanwhile, in another order, the tribunal asked jail authorities to submit a report by May 29 on the health condition and treatment status of detained Awami League leader and former minister Faruk Khan.

The order followed a petition from the 73-year-old former army officer seeking medical treatment at the Combined Military Hospital inside Dhaka Cantonment, citing multiple health complications.

Faruk Khan was represented by lawyer Mustafizur Rahman Khan.
