
July Shaheed Smriti Foundation chief executive officer Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho on Thursday resigned from his post, citing pursuing higher studies as reason.
The announcement was made at a press conference held in front of the state guest house, Jamuna, the residence of chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, following a governing board meeting of the foundation at the venue.
Snigdho is the twin brother of Mir Mugdho, a martyr of the July uprising that ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Kamal Akbar would take charge as CEO of the foundation.
Replying to a question, Snigdho said that he resigned from the foundation to pursue higher studies and currently has no plans to join politics.
He, however, said that he would continue to serve as one of the six members of the governing body of the foundation.
Shamsi Ara Zaman, mother of Tahir Zaman Priyo, a young journalist and activist killed in the July-August uprising, was appointed as general secretary of the foundation.
The foundation, established with an initial fund of Tk聽100 crore from the chief adviser鈥檚 relief and welfare fund in September 2024, gave financial assistance of about Tk聽54.71 crore to 5,437 out of a total of 14,592 injured people in the uprising and Tk聽37.95 crore to 759 out of a total of 852 martyrs, till April 25.
At the press conference, Md Mohiuddin, father of martyr Yamin, demanded that the CEO of the foundation be appointed from the family of a martyr of the July鈥揂ugust uprising.
