A woman was allegedly set ablaze by pouring kerosene on her body by her husband following a family dispute in the capital’s Turag area on Wednesday night.

The woman was taken to National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where she was being treated till Thursday evening, resident medical officer at the institute Shaon Bin Rahman said, adding that the woman suffered 70 per cent burns and her condition was critical.


‘She is being treated under observation,’ he added.

Turag police officer-in-charge Mohammad Rahat Khan said that victim’s son filed a case in this regard, and the accused, victim’s husband Abu Saeed, 40, was arrested on Thursday.

Quoting the victim, the OC said that her husband poured kerosene on her body and set her on fire due to a family dispute at about 10:00pm on Wednesday.

‘On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the victim,’ the officer said, adding that she was first taken to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital, from where she was later referred to NIBPS.

The victim’s neighbour, Rashedul Islam, said that he went to the woman’s house as she was screaming on Wednesday night.

‘Hearing the screams, we rescued her and brought her to the hospital. Her husband, however was not there at that time,’ Rashedul added.
