The International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday allowed the investigators to re-interrogate three former senior police officers in connection with the killing of nine youths in a controversial anti-extremist raid at a house known as ‘Jahajbari’ in the capital’s Kalyanpur area in 2016.

The former senior police officials are former inspector general of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque, Dhaka Metropolitan

Police’s former commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, and former DMP deputy commissioner for Mirpur division Jasimuddin Molla.

The tribunal, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order responding to a petition filed by prosecutor Gazi Monwar Hossain Tamim.

The ICT also set July 14 as the deadline for submitting the investigation report in the case.

Prosecutor Tamim said that the investigation agency would question the three former police officials separately on May 25, May 27, and May 29. This will be their second round of interrogation aiming at cross-checking inconsistencies in their previous statements.

On March 24, the tribunal allowed a prosecution plea seeking permission to show the three arrested in the case. The prosecution alleged that the killings were carried out under their directives and planning.

The nine youths were allegedly detained from various parts of the country before being labeled as extremists and executed in a staged overnight raid at Jahajbari on July 26, 2016.

The prosecutors claimed that the incident was orchestrated to instill fear among Islamic-minded citizens of the country.
