Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Tuesday demanded stopping of a certain quarter’s demand for the cancellation of Women Affairs Reform Commission report.
They also urged all to refrain from making derogatory comments on the women community.
The central steering committee of the Mancha in a press statement on the day said that Hefazat-e-Islam on Saturday at a protest rally at Suhrawardy Uddan rejected the women affairs reform commission and demanded cancellation of its report.
The commission had proposed rights of the women in society and equal rights of women to their paternal properties, the steering committee said.
In reaction to the report, some religion-based political parties made derogatory comments on the women community of the country, they said.
The women community played a prominent role in the student-led people uprising and that the rights of the women community should be established in the country, the leaders mentioned.
They called on the political parties to be united to resist the vested quarters that were opposing the report and making derogatory comments on the women community.
Signatories to the statement are Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan Zonayed Saki, chairman of Bhashani Janashakti Party and coordinator of Ganatantra Mancha Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, chief coordinator of Rastra Sanskar Andoan Hasnat Quaiyum and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon.       Â
