Teachers and students of Varendra University in Rajshahi on Monday formed a human chain demanding the whereabouts of a female student of the university who had allegedly been missing for the past 14 days.
About 50 teachers and students participated in the human chain in front of the university’s Kazla campus, urging the law enforcement agencies to step up efforts to find the missing student.
Nikhate Jannat Binte Zinnah, an assistant professor of English of the university, said that the second-year student, Zuthi Islam Jui, who was studying English at the university had a quarrel with her brother the night before she went missing.
‘She left her home on April 22, saying that she was going to attend her class but never returned home,’ she said.
Nikhate Jannat said that the student’s father lodged a general diary with Rajpara police station on April 23, but the law enforcers were yet to find out the whereabouts of the student, leaving classmates and teachers deeply concerned.
‘We want our classmate back,’ said her classmate, Sharmin Akhter, adding, ‘We demand her safe return within 24 hours. We call on law enforcement to cooperate meaningfully.’
Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were trying their best to trace the missing student.
