
The Subarnagram Sangskriti Angan formed a human chain, protesting at the demolition of the Bikshan Open Stage in Mymensingh, in front of the Sonargaon Press Club in Narayanganj on Sunday.
They also demanded the open stage to be quickly rebuilt under state supervision at the same location, said a press release.
The human chain was chaired by poet Shahed Kayes, president of Subarnagram Sangskriti Angan, and moderated by Shankar Prakash, president of Sonargaon branch of Udichi.
Poet Rahman Mujib, adviser of Sonargaon Sahitya Niketan, writer and journalist Mizanur Rahman, editor of Sonargaon branch of Sushasaner Janya Nagarik, general secretary of Sonargaon Sahitya Niketan writer and journalist Rabiul Husain, organising secretary writer Mofakhkhar Sagar, poet and journalist Ershad Husain, teacher and cultural activist Shamima Nasrin Shammi, among others, were present at the human chain.
Besides, cultural activists Abdus Sattar, Abdul Karim, teacher and cultural activist Lata Mahmud, Khadija Akhter, Tania Akhter, Pallabi Sarkar and Anand Das, among others, were also present at the human chain.
The Mymensingh district administration has bulldozed the 45-year-old ‘Bikshan’ stage of the Mymensingh Sahitya Sangsad.
The speakers said that they strongly condemned the demolition of the stage.
We believe that this is not just the destruction of a structure, but rather a severe blow to free thought, creativity, and the practice of literature, they said.
