
At least 332 girls and women across the country faced various forms of violence in April, among whom 111 were raped, according to a report published by the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Sunday.
The report, prepared based on news published in 15 national dailies, revealed that among the rape victims, 24鈥攊ncluding 16 girls鈥攚ere raped, five were murdered after rape, and two died by suicide following the incidents.
At least 60 people, including 15 girls, were murdered for various reasons, while 24 women died under mysterious circumstances, said a press release issued by the parishad.
Some 17 girls and women were victims of physical torture, while 12 others were sexually assaulted.
The report also revealed that 24 women and girls died by suicide, 12 others were tortured over dowry demands鈥攊ncluding three of them were murdered for it鈥攁nd two domestic workers were also murdered.聽
At least nine women and girls were kidnapped, while two were victims of attempted kidnapping.
Two cases of child marriage were reported during the period, while one woman was a victim of cybercrime and 10 others were subjected to various forms of torture.聽
According to the report of the Mahila Parishad, at least 442 girls and women across the country faced various forms of violence in March, among whom 163 were raped.
During this period, 54 women and girls were murdered, 29 died under mysterious circumstances, 13 committed suicide, and eight were kidnapped.
In February, at least 189 women and girls faced various forms of violence, including 48 of them were raped, while in January, 205 women and girls were subjected to violence, including 49 of them were raped.
In February, 46 women and girls were murdered, 17 died under mysterious circumstances, 15 committed suicide, and eight were kidnapped, while in January, 49 women and girls were murdered, 25 died under mysterious circumstances, 13 committed suicide, and five were kidnapped.
