
The Supreme Court of Bangladesh suspended its proceedings for half day on Sunday as a mark of respect following the demise of senior Supreme Court lawyer MI Farooqui.
According to a notice issued by the High Court registrar for judicial administration, Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, the Appellate Division sat until 11:00am, and the High Court Division until 1:15pm. The notice was published on the Supreme Court鈥檚 official website.
Senior advocate MI Farooqui passed away in Dhaka on Saturday night.
He was 86 and was suffering from lung cancer.
Farooqui is survived by his wife Sultana Suraia Akhter, a son, Ishtiaqur Rahman, and two daughters.
He was an accomplished lawyer and authored three important law books, namely, Law of Abandoned Property; Citizenship and Nationalities in Bangladesh; Interpreting Vested Property Law in Bangladesh- A Comprehensive Review.
His namaj-e janaza will be held on Supreme Court premises after Zuhr prayer on Sunday.
