Patgram upazila nirbahi officer Md Zillur Rahman was allegedly assaulted while conducting a drive to evict illegal shops from the pavement in the Patgram Municipality area of 鈥嬧�婸atgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on Saturday.
The incident took place in the West Churangi area of 鈥嬧�媡he municipality in the afternoon.
A video of the incident circulating on social media shows several businessmen assaulting the UNO during the operation.
Despite repeated attempts to calm them down, the businessmen refused to listen, and at one point, one of them punched the UNO in the stomach while several others joined them, it shows.
UNO Zillur said that several traders conducting business illegally fled with their goods during the operation, while others obstructed the drive and behaved aggressively. .
鈥楲ater, we left the scene, and the incident of obstruction during the drive has been reported to the higher authorities,鈥� he added.
Lalmonirhat additional deputy commissioner (general) Mahbubur Rahman said that there was no scope for obstructing government work and action would be taken against those responsible as per the rules.
