
Unidentified people hacked a leader of Swechchhasebak League, youth front of the Awami League, in Rajshahi city on Thursday night.
The victim, Hasan Ali, 45, Rajshahi Metropolitan Swechchhasebak League Ward 30 convener, is undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
According to police and people of the area, Hasan went into hiding after the fall of the AL autocratic regime following the student-led mass uprising on August 5 in the past year.
Few days ago, Hasan returned to his locality and had been roaming in the area openly, they said, adding that on Thursday night, he was allegedly lured outside before being attacked with sharp weapons.
Sankar K Biswas, spokesperson and in-charge of RMCH emergency department, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that Hasan suffered deep wounds on his right cheek and right hand.
‘One of his right hand’s tendons at the wrist has been severed while one of his ears also slashed,’ he added.
Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Matihar police station, said that Hasan was attacked after being lured out of his residence.
He said that a team of police visited the scene immediately and began an investigation. ‘We have asked the victim’s family to lodge a written complaint. But no complaint is lodged with us till Friday noon.’
On April 23, a group of four masked youths hacked and shot Juba League activist Rabiul Islam Robi, 40, younger brother of Rajshahi City AL’s Ward 30 unit president Shahidul Islam, at Kharbona Garoannpara area in Rajshahi city at midnight.
