
A young man was stabbed to death allegedly by his cousin at Golabganj upazila in Sylhet on Thursday over a land dispute.
The deceased, Fahim Ahmed, 25, is son of Abdul Halim of Pashchim Barcot village at Dhaka Dakshin union under the Golabganj upazila, police said.
Local people said that there had been a long-standing enmity between the families of Fahim and his paternal cousin Sayeed Ahmed over a piece of disputed land.
Fahim and Sayeed engaged in an altercation midnight past Wednesday over the ownership of the land, they said.
At one point, Sayeed stabbed Fahim leaving him critically injured at around 1:00am on Thursday, the locals said.
They said that Fahim was taken to Golabganj Upazila Health Complex after rescuing him in critical condition from the spot.
The health complex doctor later referred him to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated and he died there at about 8:00am while undergoing treatment there, the neighbours said.
GolaBganj police officer-in-charge Mohammad Moniruzzaman Molla confirmed Fahim’s death to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
He said that the body was handed over to his family in the afternoon after completion of a post-mortem examination at the SOMCH.
‘Legal action would be taken in this regard after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s family,’ the police officer said on Friday noon.
