A Secondary School Certificate examinee died on Friday, eight days after he was beaten on April 18 by his classmates allegedly for not allowing them to see his answer sheet at an exam centre in Sirajganj.
No case, however, was filed in the incident as of Saturday evening as he was beaten in Daulatpur Notunpara under the Belkuchi police station and died in Enayetpur.
Sirajganj superintendent of police Faruk Hossain said that it was decided that Belkuchi police would handle the case.
Belkuchi police officer-in-charge Jakaria Islam said that a case would be filed when the victim’s relatives come to the police station after the burial.
The deceased, Emon Hossain, 16, died while undergoing treatment at Enayetpur’s Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital.
He was a SSC examinee from Khukni Multilater High School.
Earlier on April 17, Emon refused to show his answer sheet to his classmates during the English second paper examination at Enayetpur Islamic High School.
Following this, two of his classmates called Emon away from his house and took him to nearby Daulatpur Notunpara, where they beat him.
Emon’s father Emdadul Mollah said that Emon was first taken to a local hospital and later shifted to a Dhaka hospital.
‘He was brought home on April 23 from Dhaka,’ Emon’s father said, adding, ‘When Emon’s condition deteriorated on Friday morning, he was again admitted to Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital where he died.’
