
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday filed two cases against former state Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali and his wife Shamima Jafrin on charges of amassing illegal assets worth over Tk 9 crore.
The cases were filed with the ACC’s integrated district office in Dhaka-1 following approval of the commission, said ACC director general Md Akhtar Hossain at a press briefing.
According to the cases, Mahbub Ali, also a former Awami League lawmaker from Habiganj 4 constituency, during his tenure, abused his power and unlawfully acquired and possessed assets worth Tk 5.48 crore that are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
Mahbub’s wife Shamima Jafrin with the assistance of her husband and with dishonest intent also abused power to acquire illegal assets worth Tk 3.95 crore beyond known sources of her income.
After fall of the AL government on August 5, 2024, the ACC started an inquiry against Mahbub Ali and his family over allegations of amassing illegal wealth.
