Police recovered the body of a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University from his rented house in the capital early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Pinak Ranjan Sarkar, 24, a postgraduate student of the Department of Drawing and Painting.  His body was recovered from his house in Hatirpool’s Free School Street under the Kalabagan police.


Pinak Ranjan’s family home is in Mymensingh, police said.

The police said that Pinak lived in the flat with others in shared accommodation.

Kalabagan police sub-inspector Mohammad Iqbal Hossain said that on information they went to the spot and breaking into the ninth floor flat, recovered Pinak’s body.

His body was hanging from the ceiling fan with a towel tied around his neck, he said, adding that the body was kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

‘Primarily, we think that Pinak committed suicide. But efforts are ongoing to find out the details. The exact cause of the death will be known once the autopsy report is received,’ added the sub-inspector.
