A 35-year-old man died after reportedly falling from a five-storey building in the capital’s Khilgaon area on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Asif Anwar, son of Anwarul Islam and a resident of C-Block, Khilgaon.
The incident took place on late Saturday night, police said.
Critically injured, Asif was rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 1:00am, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Quoting the victim’s maternal uncle Khalilur Rahman, police said that Asif had graduated in engineering from BUET and later went to the United States for higher studies.
But, due to mental health issues, he returned to Bangladesh approximately two and a half years ago and had been receiving treatment.
He was also preparing to go abroad again.
His uncle said that no one witnessed Asif’s jump or fall, but he was found lying in a pool of blood beneath their five-storey building.
The family members suspected that he might have accidentally fallen from the rooftop.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said that the body had been kept in the hospital morgue and the local police station had been informed.
