The Rangamati district administration has imposed a three-month ban on fishing in Kaptai Lake in Rangamati from May 1.

The restriction also includes the transportation, preservation and marketing of fish from May 1 to July 31.


Deputy commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah confirmed the decision to BSS, which was extended in a meeting of the Kaptai Lake Management and Steering Committee at the聽聽 DC鈥檚 conference room on Wednesday.

He said that like previous years, the seasonal ban aimed to protect the natural breeding cycle of fish, ensured the healthy growth of fish fry, and boosted overall fish production in the lake.

Manager of the BFDC Rangamati Fish Marketing Centre Commander Md Fayez Al Karim, additional district commissioner Pathan Md Saiduzzaman, additional superintendent of police Nadira Noor, district fisheries officer Adhir Chandra Das and local fish traders, including Abdul Shukkur and Mahfuz Alam attended the meeting.

To support registered fishermen during the ban, the district administration will distribute food aid through VGF cards.
