A 43-year-old rickshaw puller was beaten to death on theft suspicion in Kushtia district town early Thursday. The victim is Surman Khan of GK Colony in the district town.

The police detained a couple and their daughter in this regard.


The victim’s nephew Sajal said that an incident of theft occurred at the house of detained fuchka vendor Hakim at the same colony Tuesday night.

Suspecting Surmanb for the theft, Hakim’s followers picked him up from his house at about 1:00am and beat him up at Hakim’s house, he said.

At one stage, Surman died while the accused fled the house sensing the danger, Sajal said.

Kushtia superintendent of police Md Mizanur Rahman and Kushtia model police station officer-in-charge Mosharraf Hossain visited the spot Thursday morning.

Mosharraf said that they recovered the victim’s body whose neck was tied with a rope at the accused’s house.

He said that they had already detained three accused and efforts were underway to catch the remaining accused involved in the incident.
