A 13-year-old tourist drowned while bathing in the Piyain River at Jaflong in Sylhet on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, Nayon Mia, hailed from Dirai in Sunamganj, according to the police.
According to local people, Nayon went to visit Jaflong with his friends on Eid day. While bathing in the river near the border, he was swept away by the strong current and went missing.
His companions and local people rescued him and rushed him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Gowainghat police station officer-in-charge Sarkar Tofayel Ahmed said, ‘The body of a tourist who drowned at Jaflong was recovered. After completing legal procedures, it will be handed over to the family.’
