The National Board of Revenue has instructed banks and financial institutions to freeze the accounts of Jatiya Party chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader, also a former minister, and his wife Sharifa Quader over graft allegations.
The NBR鈥檚 Central Intelligence Cell on Sunday issued a directive in this regard.
In the directive, the CIC also sought all relevant information regarding the bank accounts of GM Quader, his wife, their daughter Ishrat Jahan Quader, and their son-in-law Mahfuz Ahmed, to be submitted within the next 15 days.
The NBR directed the banks to submit all soft copies within seven days regarding the updated statements of savings accounts, investment schemes, foreign currency, credit cards, lockers, savings certificates and other deposit schemes from July 1, 2017 onwards.
The revenue board also instructed the banks that if the account was started, closed, terminated, or was in a dormant situation within or before the period, they would still share the information as per the requirement.
GM Quader was the opposition leader during the Awami League regime which was ousted on August 5, 2024, in a mass uprising. He was a commerce minister in the Awami League-led government from 2009 to 2013.
Earlier on March 20, the Anti-Corruption Commission launched an inquiry into allegations against GM Quader of embezzlement and laundering money obtained through bribes for party positions and candidacy.
