Bangladesh Sangbadpathro Karmachari Federation and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers on Thursday urged the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh to extend the Eid holidays to five days on the occasion of the next Eid-ul-Fitr.
The two federations made the call from an emergency joint meeting held at the BSS employees’ union office in Dhaka as the NOAB had declared a three-day Eid holiday instead of following the government’s five-day Eid vacation, said a press release.
BFUNPW president Md Alamgir Hossain Khan presided over the meeting while BSKF president Matiur Rahman Talukder spoke as the chief speaker. Other leaders of the two federations also spoke at the meeting.
The leaders said that the government had declared a five-day vacation on the occasion of the next Eid-ul-Fitr. But, unfortunately, the NOAB announced only a three-day holiday for the newspapers industry, which was discriminatory towards journalists and press workers as well as it was also a violation of their rights.
Therefore, they called the NOAB to extend the Eid holiday up to five days for the newspapers industry, so that the officials of the industry can share their joy with their family members.
They hoped that the NOAB would reconsider their demand and ensure fair leave for journalists and press workers.
