
A man was arrested in Chuadanga on charges of attempting rape on his adolescent daughter and another man was held in Kurigram on charges of raping his sister-in-law on Monday.
United News of Bangladesh reported that a 40-year-old man was arrested in a Chuadanga village on Monday on allegations of attempting to rape his 14-year-old daughter.
Chuadanga Sadar police officer-in-charge Khaledur Rahman said that they arrested the father, Enamul Haque, who is a security guard, amid public outrage in the neighbourhood.Â
As news of the incident spread, outraged locals surrounded their house and began angry protests, leading to a tense situation in the area.
The situation was controlled after the police intervened on Monday evening.
According to the police, the accused fled to his uncle’s house in Pukuria village in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah from where he was arrested on Monday night in a drive conducted by the Chuadanga district Detective Branch of Police.
The police said that the father allegedly had been making advances to his daughter, a madrasah student, for some time.
The police, referring to their primary probe, said that on December 1, Enamul attempted to rape his daughter while the mother was away that led the girl to descend into a deep trauma.
On March 14, the distressed girl took six Napa Extra tablets following which her family rushed her to hospital where she finally disclosed her father’s attempted rape to her family.Â
‘Primary investigations have confirmed evidence of the attempted rape. The accused is in custody and legal proceedings are underway,’ said OC Khaledur.
In another incident reported by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested the main accused in a rape case in Kurigram on Monday.
The accused, from Lalmonirhat’s South Musharat Madati village, has been charged with raping his elder brother’s wife on July 5, 2024, after luring her with promises of marriage.
Based on the victim’s complaint with the Hatibandha police, the RAB-13’s crime prevention specialised company arrested the accused and later handed him over to the Hatibandha police for further action.Â
