The Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court on Tuesday ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission to seize 54 kathas of land worth Tk 9.70 crore owned by Summit Group chairman Muhammad Aziz Khan’s wife Anjuman Aziz Khan.
The court also issued a travel ban on Sikder Group managing director Ron Haque Sikder and 13 other members of his family in connection with graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain issued the order in connection with Summit Group following a petition submitted by the ACC, said ACC public relations officer Akhtarul Islam.
The ACC mentioned in the petition that although the market value of the 54 kathas of land in the capital’s Badda area was shown at Tk 1.46 crore in deed, the actual value was Tk 9.70 crore.
The ACC’s application said that an inquiry team was formed to probe various graft allegations, including illegal wealth acquisition and money laundering, against Summit Group and its affiliated organisations.
During the inquiry, it was found that there was a possibility of transfer of immovable property owned by the person concerned in the complaint. So, it is necessary to seize the immovable assets, said the ACC.
Earlier, on March 9, the court ordered the seizure of 191 bank accounts of Summit Group.
Regarding the travel ban, the 13 other members of Ron Haque Sikder family include Ron Haque’s mother Anwara Sikder, brothers Rick Haque Sikder and Dipu Haque Sikder, sisters Nasim Haque Sikder, Mamtazul Haque Sikder, Lisa Fatema Haque Sikder and Parveen Haque Sikder, Parveen’s husband Salauddin Khan, her daughters Jeffrey Khan and Mandy Khan, Nasim’s daughter Monika Khan, Ron Haque's son Shawn Haque Sikder, and Rick Haque’s son John Haque Sikder.
The ACC has already formed a four-member committee to probe allegations of embezzling money, loan scam and money laundering against Sikder Group and its associates, said ACC officials.
Earlier, on March 9, the same court directed the authorities to freeze 42 beneficiary owners’ accounts of former National Bank chairman and Sikder Group founder late Zainul Haque Sikder and his family members.
