Leaders of Imarat Nirman Sramik Union Bangladesh on Monday urged the interim government and factory owners to ensure the payment of wages and festival allowances to workers by Ramadan 20.
Speaking at a special representatives’ meeting in Dhaka, the leaders emphasised that without timely payments, workers would be unable to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their families.
They noted that Ramadan began on March 2, and Eid-ul-Fitr is expected in early April.
Labour leader and Bangladesh Trade Union Centre joint secretary Abul Kalam Azad called on the government to take immediate steps to facilitate the payments before Ramadan 20.
The union organised the meeting at Shishu Kalyan Parishad auditorium on Topkhana Road, with its president Mohammad Rabiul Islam in the chair.
During the event, a five-member central conference preparatory committee was formed, led by Shahida Parveen Shikha.
INSUB general secretary Mohammad Abdur Razzak, along with central leaders KM Ruhul Amin, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Babul, and others, also spoke at the meeting.
