A mobile court sentenced a youth to six months’ imprisonment on charge of stalking a schoolgirl at Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj on Saturday noon.
The convicted youth is Abdul Mannan, 21, son of Abdus Salam of Mirashi village at the Chunarughat upazila, police said.
The police said that Mannan stalked a Class X girl of Kalikapur High School in the Mirashi area on her way to coaching class and tried to assault her.
Hearing screams, local people came forward and handed over Mannan to police after detaining him from the spot, the police said.
Chunarughat police officer-in-charge Nur Alam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a mobile court led by upazila assistant commissioner for land and executive magistrate Mahbub Alam was conducted and the court sentenced Mannan to a six-month jail term after he confessed to his offence to the mobile court.
‘The convicted was sent to the district jail in the afternoon,’ the police officer added.
