The Malaysia chapter of the ‘Bangladesh Prabashi Odhikar Parishad’ on Thursday protested the alleged data breach and corruption linked to ESKL, a passport, visa, immigration service providing company reportedly owned by members of Sheikh family.

They came up with the demand at a press conference at Al Razi Complex in Purana Paltan of Dhaka.

During the briefing, the organisation’s central committee’s joint secretary Al Mamun read out a written statement, citing reports from some national dailies.

According to those reports, ESKL is owned by Sheikh family members, including Nur Alam, Nixon Chowdhury, and Sheikh Rehana.

Referring to allegations raised by Bangladeshi migrants, Al Mamun said that the interim government had cancelled ESKL’s contract last December.

‘However, on the following month, Bangladeshi-American businessman Tabith Awal reportedly acquired a 30 per cent stake in the company, after which the shutdown order was revoked.’

He alleged that deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh high commission in Malaysia Khorshed Alam Khastgir and foreign secretaries Jasim Uddin and Gias Uddin were involved in those irregularities.

They warned that if their demands were not met, they might suspend remittance transfer from Malaysia to Bangladesh.
