The interim government’s adviser to the law, Justice and parliamentary affairs ministry Asif Nazrul on Tuesday said that the previous Awami League-led government used the deputy commissioners to torture people.
‘The past fascist government used these huge resources (the deputy commissioners) to torture the people and to justify their misdeeds,’ he said while addressing the last day programme of the Annual Deputy Commissioners’ Conference held at the Osmani Memorial auditorium in Dhaka.
He said that the deputy commissioners had the capacities to provide different services to people, including health, education, land management and monitoring law and order situations.
‘The huge possibilities of the deputy commissioners can be used for providing services to people following the Constitution,’ the law adviser continued.
He also said that in Bangladesh there were only buildings and workforces but no services were being provided by these.
