Slum dwellers in Mirpur 12 resisted a drive to disconnect illegal utility connections, including gas, electricity, and water, Tuesday morning.
The drive, which ran from 9:00am to 2:00pm, faced resistance as residents blocked roads to prevent utility service authorities and police from carrying out their operations.
Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pallabi police station, said that the slum residents blocked a road near the residence of former Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-16, Md Elias Uddin Mollah.
‘Despite the obstacles, all illegal gas, electricity, and water connections in the slum were disconnected,’ said OC Nazrul.
The police assisted utility authorities throughout the operation to ensure the drive was completed.
