
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday conducted a drive in the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority building in Rajshahi city over the irregularities in recruiting deep tube well operators and an irrigation project.
A team led by Md Amir Hossain, assistant director of ACC Rajshahi integrated office, conducted the drive at the offices of BMDA’s chief superintending engineer (irrigation division) Jahangir Alam Khan, and ‘Expansion of Irrigation Area through Underground Irrigation Channels’ project director Shahidur Rahman, talked with the offices’ officials and employees, and seized several documents.
After the drive, Amir Hossain said that they had conducted the drive at the offices over the allegation of irregularities in recruiting deep tube well operators and in implementing ‘Expansion of Irrigation Area through Underground Irrigation Channels’ project.
‘The BMDA officials have instantly shown us some papers and documents. After analysing the papers and documents, we will send a report to the ACC headquarters and will take further steps as directed by the commission,’ he added.
Contacted, RCC superintendent engineer (acting) Ahmad Al Moyeen, however, said that they were carrying out the renovation work following government rules and policy.
Contacted, BMDA’s chief superintendent engineer Jahangir Alam Khan and project director Shahidur Rahman said that ACC officials came to their office for some papers and documents and they provided them accordingly.
Claiming that there were no irregularities and corruption in the recruitment processes and in the implementation of the project, the duo officials said that they had asked for a bit of time to provide the documents that they could not provide the ACC officials instantly.
According to BMDA officials, 10 projects worth Tk 2,295 crore are being implemented in greater Rajshahi and Rangpur regions.
