Three students of Jahangirnagar University’s law faculty have been on a hunger strike for more than 24 hours, demanding a dedicated building for their faculty.

The protest began at about 3:30pm on Sunday, and continued until 7:00pm on Monday in front of JU administrative building, with the students vowing to persist until their demands are met.

The protesters are Md Asaduzzaman, a student of the 50th batch and the general secretary of the department’s student council, along with Maliha Hasan Maisha and Rofa Rawnak from the 49th batch.

Their demands included re-evaluation of results for students from the 49th to the 51st batches, reintroduction of a separate admission unit for the law faculty, and allocation of a permanent building for the faculty.

The students said that despite the faculty’s 14-year history, classes were conducted in just one classroom.

They began advocating for a permanent building on August 11, but claimed the administration had yet to offer any concrete solution.

‘For 14 years, the administration has provided nothing but empty promises,’ a protesting student Asaduzzaman stated, emphasising that they would break their strike only upon visible action.

In response, JU pro-vice-chancellor for administration, professor Sohel Ahmed, said, ‘We have discussed the matter with them and requested time until the syndicate meeting.’
