Adviser to the ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs Supradip Chakma on Friday visited arson damaged Tripura houses at Purba Betchhara Para of Sarai Union in Lama upazila of Bandarban.
‘We must be careful that none can spread a new conspiracy regarding the hilly areas, as a conspiracy is going on in the country,’ he said.
The adviser said that there could be conspiracies inside and outside to destroy communal harmony. ‘We must remember that neighbouring Myanmar is not very far from here. Across the border, their internal turmoil is going on.’
He said that the law enforcement agencies and the hilly people had to be careful that the chaos of Myanmar wouldn’t enter Bangladesh.
Criticising the previous Awami League government, Supradip Chakma said that they did not consider the security of all the hilly people on equal basis. There had been political discrimination too.
‘The interim government is deeply committed to ensuring equal rights for everyone and wanted to restore the rights of all of this country,’ he said.
During his visit, the adviser was accompanied by Bandarban hill district council chairman professor Thanjama Lusai, deputy commissioner Shah Mozahid Uddin, superintendent of police Mohammad Shahidullah Kawsar, and officials from various government and private sectors.
A fire broke out in 16 homes at Purba Betchhara Para Tuesday night. During the incident residents of the neighbourhood were at the church for Christmas celebrations.
A case was filed with Lama police on Wednesday night and police arrested four people.
