Local government and youth and sports adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain on Wednesday said that the interim government would move towards the national election after reforms were completed.

‘So many people did not sacrifice their lives in the student-led mass uprising merely for the sake of an election. The previous government systematically destroyed both state and private institutions through its fascist practices. The issue of national reforms is far more significant,’ he said.

Speaking as the chief guest at a winter cloth distribution programme held at Baliadangi in Thakurgaon, Asif Mahmud said, ‘Once the reforms are completed, this government will proceed to hold the election.’

He also mentioned that the government officials in the country were making money out of underhand dealings from various projects, which was a significant obstacle to the overall development, and these issues would be addressed.

Additional deputy commissioner Sardar Mustafa Shahin chaired the event, which was attended by additional police super Liza Begum, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Palash Kumar Debnath and Thakurgaon LGED executive engineer Mohammad Mamun Biswas, among others.
