Police have arrested the owner of Love Leen Bangla Restaurant and another individual in connection with the Friday fire in the Uttara eatery.

The arrested are Rezaul Karim, the owner of the restaurant, and Obaidul Haque, an employee of the restaurant.

Police seized three compressed natural gas cylinders that are not allowed to use for cooking purposes, from the restaurant.

Confirming the matter, Uttara West police station officer-in-charge Md Hafizur Rahman said on Saturday that police arrested Obaidul while he was attempting to destroy evidence on the spot on Friday.

The owner Rezaul was arrested on Saturday after a case was filed regarding the incident early Saturday, he said.

‘We have seized three CNG cylinders used in the kitchen of the restaurant. Employee Obaidul was trying to flee the spot taking away the cylinders when we detained him,’ he said.

The fire broke out at about 10:30am at the restaurant, housed on the ground floor in the six-storey building on Friday.
