A trawler carrying 114 tonnes of frozen fish arrived at Teknaf Land Port in Cox’s Bazar in eight days on early Sunday after the seizure of Myanmar’s Maungdaw town by the Arakan Army.

The trawler reached the port at about 1:00am on Sunday, confirmed Syed Mohammad Hussain, a manager at the United Land Port Limited which operates the port.

According to Mohammad, the trawler arrived from Myanmar’s Yangon Port with the frozen fish. The shipment was owned by four traders from Teknaf.

However, three other cargo ships and four trawlers that previously delivered goods from Myanmar are still unable to return and remain anchored in the River Naf near the land port as Arakan Army, after the seizure of Myanmar’s Maungdaw town following battle with the army in Rakhine state, imposed a vessel ban on the Myanmar side of the river.

‘After the collection of revenue, arrangements are being made to transport the fish to Dhaka and Chattogram,’ he said.

Teknaf upazila nirbahi officer SK Ahsan Uddin said on Sunday evening that the situation along the border area was normal. ‘No sign of conflict near the border was noticed,’ he said.
