
Muktijuddho Academy Trust organised an event titled War of Independence Festival to mark the 53rd anniversary of the Victory Day at the Russian house in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Russian house in Dhaka. It featured discussion, documentary film screening, musical performance and poem recitations, addressing the sacrifice of the people for the independence of the country.
Presided over by chairman of the trust Abul Kalam Azad, Pavel Dvoychenkov, director of the Russian house, delivered welcome speech at the event.
Retired army chief lieutenant general M Harun-Ar-Rashid and former chairman of National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh Mizanur Rahman, among others, attended the event as special guests.
Pavel Dvoychenkov said that the former Soviet Union supported Bangladesh in the Liberation War, and now Russia helped build power plants.Â
M Harun-Ar-Rashid said that the objective of the war, equality for all, had not yet been achieved. ‘We have to make the July uprising successful.’ Â
‘Freedom fighters are the best citizens of our nation. It is our duty to respect them,’ said Abul Kalam Azad.
Following the discussion, a documentary film titled Soviet Navy Demining Rescue Operation at Bay of Bengal 1972-1974 directed by Ibrahim Azad and produced by Muktijuddha Academy was screened at the event.
