Former chief justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim died of old-age complications at a Dhaka hospital early Saturday. He was 81.
Fazlul Karim breathed his last at about 4:45am at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital while undergoing treatment there, Supreme Court sources said.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Supreme Court Inner Garden after zuhr prayers.
The judicial activities of the Supreme Court will remain suspended on Sunday.
Chief justice Syed Refaat Ahmed in a message of condolence expressed profound shock at the death of Fazlul Karim. He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
