
Four day labourers were killed after being hit by a passenger-laden train at Alauddin Nagar area of Patgram in Lalmonirhat on Monday.
The deceased are Azizar Rahman, 65, Mubarak Hossain, 55, and Maqbul Hossain, 45, from Islam Nagar village, and Abdul Wahab, 42, from Maminpur village of the upazila.
Lalmonirhat railway station officer-in-charge Md Saiful Islam said that the four sat on the railway after they had done their daily work.
At that time, the Karatoa Express on the Burimari-Santahar route ran over them, killing them on the spot, he added.
Besides the railway, a rice threshing machine was running, for which they could not hear the sound of the train, the OC mentioned, adding that no case was filed till filing this report at 9:00pm on Monday.
Lalmonirhat deputy administrator HM Rakib Haider said that they had given Tk 5,000 to the families of each of the victims for burial procedure.
‘Tk 25,000 will be given to the families of each of the victims from the disaster management and relief ministry,’ he said and added that he asked the upazila nirbahi officer to submit a report on the accident.
