The authorities of Jagannath University on Sunday said that they were in close contact with the University Grants Commission and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology experts to find out the possibility and process of handing over its second campus project under the supervision of Bangladesh Army.

‘The authorities are in close contact with University Grants Commission as the project implementing authority, and BUET experts to find out the possibility and process of handing over project to the Army,’ said a press release.

Other alternatives are also being explored, and it is anticipated that the first and second demands of the students will soon be met, added the press release.

The university authorities are working on whether the abandoned buildings located on the acquired land can be made habitable on a temporary basis, giving priority to solving the housing crisis of the students. ‘If that is not possible, arranging temporary accommodation is also strongly considered,’ it mentioned.

The press release further stated that significant progress has been made in acquiring 11.40 acres of land, which was part of the third demand of the students.

The JnU vice-chancellor Professor Rezaul Karim said, ‘We have engaged with authorities regarding the land. We also have submitted several formal requests.’

He added, ‘We are hopeful that we will complete the remaining land acquisitions soon.’
