At least four people, including three friends, were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur and Dhaka and Gopalganj on Sunday.

United News of Bangladesh reported that three friends were killed and another was injured as bus crashed into a private car on their way to Tangail from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after seeing off another friend early Sunday.


The deceased are Nasir Uddin, 23, Muslim Uddin, 30, and Jewel, 32, of Sakhipur, Madhupur and Sakhipur upazilas in the district respectively and the injured is Azizur.

Quoting locals, Naojhor highway police station sub-inspector Shahidul Islam said that the speeding bus hit the microbus, carrying the four in Sutrapur area on Dhaka-Tangail highway at about 2:45am, leaving one of the friends dead on the spot.

The injured three were rushed to Kaliakair upazila health complex where physicians declared two dead upon arrival, he said.

The bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal action would be taken in this regard, SI Shahidul added.

A 60-year-old person was killed when a bus hit him in front of Bongshal police station in Dhaka on the same day, another UNB report said.

The deceased is Abdul Kalam, a cleaner of Dhaka North City Corporation and son of Taijat Ali. Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police camp, said that the accident occurred at about 1:50pm when a bus of ‘Tanjil Paribahan’ hit a van carrying Kalam, leaving him injured.

Later, police took him to the DMCH where on-duty doctors declared him dead at about 2:20pm. The body was kept at the hospital morgue, said the police officer.
