People continued to suffer immensely as the inter-district bus communications between Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
‘We sat in a meeting with the district and police administrations and Chapainawabganj transport leaders on Tuesday, but failed to come to a solution. We will again sit with them on Wednesday,’ said Rafiqul Islam, acting general secretary of Rajshahi Motor Workers Union.
He said that the bus communication between the two districts would resume once the existing problem among the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj transport leaders and workers was solved.
Earlier, bus communications on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj route was suspended without any prior notice for an unidentified period on Monday morning after transport workers of the two districts had beaten each other over a trivial matter.
People traveling on this route continued to suffer immensely on Tuesday due to the strike.
According to the Rajshahi Road Transport Group, about 75 short- and long-route buses ply on the Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi route every day.
Fatema Rahman, an official of a non-government organisation who was waiting in the Rajshahi Rail Gate area for a CNG-run three-wheeler, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that she needed to go to Shibganj upazila for urgent official work.
‘Since the bus communications is suspended, the CNG- and battery-powered three-wheeler drivers are charging almost double than the normal bus fares. Besides, I will have to change transports twice to thrice to reach my destinations with an additional cost,’ she said.
