The police on Saturday night arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in an incident of raping a woman and her daughter at Char Elahi union under Noakhali鈥檚 Companiganj upazila.
The arrested are Hasan, 36, and Harun, 32, residents of the same union.
Companiganj police station officer-in-charge Gazi Muhammad Fouzul Azim said that police arrested two people after the mother had filed a case against six people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Sunday.
The mother alleged that a group of six men came to her house at about 11:00pm on October 20.
The group gagged and bound her brother-in-law and then dragged her and her daughter outside, she said.
Three of them dragged her to a pond near the house while others took her daughter to the kitchen next to their residence, she said, adding that the two were tortured till about 3:00am.
She also alleged that the perpetrators looted money and other valuables from the house while leaving and threatened them to keep quiet.
Companiganj police station officer-in-charge Gazi Muhammad said that the operation was on to arrest the other perpetrators.
In another incident on October 25, 15-20 people reportedly raped two women of a family in their own house at Kalai upazila of Jaipurhat.
The Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, meanwhile, expressed its concern over the incidents in a statement on Sunday.
The rights body demanded quick arrest of those involved in these incidents and their exemplary punishment.
