The Appellate Division on Thursday deferred the hearing of three petitions seeking a review of its 2011 verdict which declared the national election-time caretaker government system unconstitutional.
A six-member bench, chaired by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, set the new date for November 17 after attorney general Md Asaduzzaman requested a four-week adjournment to prepare his arguments on the issue of significant public importance.
Lawyers Zainul Abedin, Sharif Bhuiyan, and Mohammad Shishir Manir, — representing petitioner the Bangladesh Nationalist Party —, and five eminent citizens including Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik secretary Badiul Alam Majumder and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami — did not oppose the adjournment.
On October 20, Chamber Judge Md Rezaul Haque had scheduled the hearing for October 24.
