Students on Sunday demanded the removal of Feni deputy commissioner Musammat Shahina Akter, accusing her of being an ‘accomplice’ in killings during the anti-discrimination student movement in Feni.
The students, under the banner of Revolutionary Students Society, formed a human chain and staged a demonstration on Trunk Road, near the Central Shaheed Minar in the Feni town.Â
They also demanded that the DC be brought to justice.
Md Naeem Faraizi, a protesting student, said that although almost all deputy commissioners across the country had been transferred following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, Feni DC Shahina, despite being an ‘accomplice’ in the August 4 massacre during the movement, remained in her position.
He also said that the DC had not visited the families of those killed on August 4, nor had she inquired about the treatment of the injured.Â
Alleging that Shahina was a trusted confidante of former lawmaker and Feni district Awami League general secretary Nizam Uddin Hazari, he said that Feni would see no progress if she was not removed.Â
Another student, Abdullah Obaid Antu, said that all government officials and employees backed by the fascist AL government should also be dismissed and those involved in the August 4 massacre must be arrested.
On July 6, 2023, the then Awami League government appointed Shahina as the first female DC of Feni.
On August 4, nine students and civilians were killed, and several hundred were injured during the movement as a result of indiscriminate firing ordered by former lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari.
