The police arrested Awami League鈥檚 voluntary wing Awami Swechchhasebak League central committee leader Tarique Afzal Sabuj in a murder case on Saturday night while a Dhaka court on Sunday sent former National Security Intelligence director Commodore Monirul Islam to jail.
Tarique was arrested in the capital鈥檚 Mirpur area on charges of his alleged involvement in the killing of Md Ashraful Islam during the anti-discrimination student movement, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
Mirpur model police station inspector Md Sazzad said that police conducted a raid in an area last night and arrested the Swechchhasebak League central leader whose name was on first information report.
He said that a case was filed with Mirpur Model Thana on September 22 in connection with the murder of Md Ashraful Islam.
A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday sent former director NSI director Monirul Islam to jail rejecting his bail petition, said another BSS report.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain rejected the bail petition and sent him to jail.
Police produced Monirul, arrested in a case filed over the killing of teenager Bahadur Hossain Moni in the capital during the anti-discrimination movement, before the court after his three-day remand in police custody.
Former NSI director Monirul Islam was arrested in the Kotwali police station area on October 9.
On October 10, a Dhaka court placed him on three-day remand after a hearing.
According to the case, Bahadur Hossain Moni was shot dead while he was crossing the street in front of Shahzadpur Primary School on Pragati Sarani under the Gulshan police station on July 19 during the anti-discrimination movement.聽
Later, his father Abu Zafar received a mobile phone call from an unknown person and got information that a teenager was lying on the road being hit by bullets.
Abu Zafar along with locals took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Later, Abu Zafar filed a case with the Gulshan police station on September 30.
Police on the day arrested Savar Upazila Sramik League president Shawkat Hossain on charge of killing a student during the anti-discrimination student-people movement.
On information, police arrested him at his village Jadurchar under Tetuljhora union on Saturday evening, said Savar model police station officer-in-charge M Jewel Mia.
