A case was filed on Friday over the allegations of rape of a Class V student at Chaubari village of Kamarkhand in Sirajganj on Wednesday.

At least three family members of the victim were also injured in an attack by the relatives of the accused when they had gone to file a case with Kamarkhand police station.

Tutul, 18, a resident of the same village, was named as prime accused in the rape case.

The victim’s mother told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that she was at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka, attending to her ailed elder daughter.

‘Taking advantage of this, our neighbour Tutul forcibly entered our home on Wednesday night, and raped my school-going daughter, threatening to kill her,’ she said.

Tutul often harassed the victim, taking revenge for not accepting his social media friend request.  On Wednesday, Tutul impersonated the victim’s father’s voice before intruding into their house. ‘Finding me completely unprotected, he raped me,’ the victim said.

Her mother also alleged that Tutul’s family, supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, turned aggressive to her family soon after the falling of the Awami League-led government on August 5.

On Friday morning, Tutul’s family members reportedly assaulted the victim’s relatives when they attempted to lodge a rape case with the police station.

Three members of the victim’s family, who got injured by the assaults, were admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital.

In the written complaints filed by the victim’s mother, Tutul’s father Sohrab Ali, his uncles Sarwar and Alam, and Alam’s son Mahi, along with others, were accused of assaulting the victim’s relatives.

The accused persons allegedly vandalised the victim’s home. Later, they called the emergency hotline 999 for police assistance.

Kamarkhand police station officer-in-charge Mokhlesur Rahman said, ‘Some local people presume that the incident might be related to a romantic affair. But, the victim is a minor and we are taking this case seriously.’

‘Preparations were underway for her medical examination,’ he said.

The accused Tutul was unreachable since Friday morning. Sohrab Ali, however, blamed the victim’s family for filing a false complaint against his son.
