A Dhaka College student was allegedly tortured by Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists in the early hours of Tuesday at the Dakhanian Hall of the college.

The victim, Maruf Reza Masum, an English department student of the college, on Tuesday wrote on his Facebook account, describing the incident that took place from 1:00am to 4:00am.

The JCD on Wednesday formed a two-member investigation committee to investigate the allegations, said a press release signed by the JCD office secretary Md Jahangir Alam.

The release stated that an investigation committee was formed under the leadership of central vice-presidents ABM Izzajul Kabir Rowel and Manjurul Riyad to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident that took place in Room 301 of the hall.

The president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Rakibul Islam Rakib, and the general secretary, Nasir Uddin Nasir, issued this directive.

‘The past night marked the darkest and most horrific chapter of my life. I was subjected to unspeakable torture in the Room 301 of Dhaka College’s Dakhanian Hall,’ he wrote.

He alleged that Dhaka College management department students Al Rahat, Habib Hawladar Shihab and Mahmudul Hasan Arnob and Salauddin tortured him.

He also alleged that the JCD Dhaka College unit assistant social welfare secretary Habib Hawladar Shihab and his associates were involved in the incident.

Describing the incident, the victim further wrote that when Salauddin was using obscene language with his friends in the room, he requested him not to use such language as his younger brother was studying nearby.

‘Hearing this, he rushed toward me to attack,’ he added.

Later, Rahat called Shihab from the North Hall, and they locked the room and tortured him, and when he tried to call the teachers to report it, he was threatened and warned that they would kill him, he mentioned.

Dhaka College principal Professor Elias Hossain said that they would take actions after talking to the victim over the allegation as the college was now closed on the occasion of the Durga Puja.

Regarding the incident, Nasir Uddin Nasir told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that this was a very trivial incident. ‘We have formed an investigation committee, and we are currently in a meeting about it.’
